Growing Communities
WIB 83 is always excited to see one of our Community Partners flurish. Louisiana Delta Community College held ground breaking ceremonies for two new campuses, one in Winnsboro, Louisiana and the other in Jonesboro, Louisiana.
The two new facilities are part of Act 360 of the 2013 Legislative Session. Act 360 authorized funding of capital improvements for 29 projects for Louisiana’s Community and Technical Colleges. These new campuses will offer academic and workforce training programs in state-of-the-art and industry endorsed facilities.
The Jackson Parish campus is located at the intersection of Industrial Drive and Pinehill Drive in a former factory. The factory will under go a $3 million renovation. The Jackson Parish Industrial Board, Jackson Parish Police Jury and Jackson Parish School Board joined to provide the required 12 percent match of state funding, part of which came from the donation of the building.
The Winnsboro campus is located on Highway 15 at the former Vinyard Furniture Store in Winnsboro’s industrial park. The Winnsboro Campus entails a total investment of some $5.1 million. Support totaling $650,000 from the Franklin Parish community, both public and private, helped secure the new location. $250,000 of that total comes locally from the Franklin Parish School system. LDCC and the Franklin Parish School system entered into a cooperative endeavor in which high school students here will be able to take part in classes at the community college.
This growth is positive for both of these communities and the people we serve. WIB83 looks forward to continuing to work with LDCC at the new locations.
