Northeast La. Career Fair set for Feb. 18
Over fifty employers will join together on Tuesday, February 18 at the 2020 Northeast Louisiana Career Fair. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe Civic Center. Admission to the event is free and open to all regional jobseekers.
The 2020 Northeast Louisiana Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for jobseekers to connect with employers who have quality jobs that they are hoping to fill. Jobseekers will have the opportunity to meet with several employers at a single location. People looking for a job are encouraged to bring several copies of their resume and to dress professionally for the event.
Most of the employers require that job seekers have a high school diploma or equivalent, be drug free, highly motivated, have the ability to work in teams and have good communication skills. Some of the jobs will require a civil service test. Some of the specific skills employers are looking for are noted below.
Business: Sales and IT experience (doesn’t need to be very experienced, prefer someone just out of college); managerial; office; administrative; accounting; finance; tellers; customer service representatives; loan officers; branch managers; computer skills; call center; excellent interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; planning and organizational skills; sales experience; coachable and motivated.
Manufacturing: Experience in manufacturing environment (production line); mechanical, electrical, chemical and process control skills (technicians and engineers); entry level labor; supervisors; diesel technicians, equipment operators; warehouse; machine operators; and engineering. Need critical thinking and active listening skills with ability to troubleshoot.
Retail: retail management; customer service; debt collection; furniture sales; merchandising; good communication skills; basic computer skills.
Criminal Justice: Criminal justice experience; police officers; jailers and dispatchers.
Healthcare: CNAs; LPNs; physical therapist; RNs for ER, ICU, Labor and Delivery, Operating Room; mental health specialists, certified EMT’s and Paramedics; health and human services experience; people who enjoy working with people with developmental disabilities; Technicians and wheelchair Van drivers, good writing and comprehensive skills. Candidates need compassionate customer care and a willingness to serve.
Media: TV News reporter; producer; TV ad salespeople; radio announcers; sports play by play announcers; and radio advertising sales.

Staff members with the local Region 8 Career Solutions Center will be available to help job applicants register with the Workforce Commission’s job bank. In addition, Workforce staff members will be on hand to assist job searches and counseling. Several area training providers will also be on hand to provide information for people who want to upgrade their skills and training.
