Registration underway for Youth CDL Apprenticeship
Locally and across the country, the truck driving profession continues to be one of the highest in-demand jobs. However, there aren’t nearly enough people with commercial driver’s licenses to fill many positions.
Beginning this month area youth (ages 21-24) will have the unique opportunity to become part of the driver shortage solution, as well as taking the first steps toward a rewarding career.
Registration opened this week for the Youth Transportation Pre-Apprenticeship Program, a four-week course administered by Diesel Driving Academy on Louisiana Delta Community College's West Monroe Campus. Financial aid for the program is available through Workforce Development Board 83.
Diesel Driving Academy is one of the largest privately owned and accredited truck driving schools in the United States, and have been in continuous operation since 1972. In 1982, DDA became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
All successful participants of the program obtain a commercial driving license, and are guaranteed employment as an apprentice with Schneider National. The eligible student will earn a wage while attending the 95 Lab hours. Also, tuition will be covered for eligible candidates.
To register and determine if eligible, any youth (21-24 years old) should call the Franklin Parish Workforce Office at 435-5687 to set up an appointment in your parish. This must be done within Feb. 11 - Feb. 15. The course begins Feb. 25.
