Louisiana Unemployment Insurance Claims Report July 17, 2015

BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 11, 2015 increased to 3,451 from the previous week’s total of 2,707. The week ending July 11 marked the start of a new quarter for new claims, when some claimants regain their eligibility for benefits, typically resulting in an increase in initial claims. Initial claims were above the comparable figure of 2,984 for the week ending July 12, 2014.

Construction had the largest increase in initial claims, followed by administrative and waste services. Initial claims for mining, which includes oil and gas exploration and extraction workers, decreased from 88 to 83. Others working in the oil and gas support services are spread among various sectors.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,899 from the previous week’s average of 2,758.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending July 11, 2015 increased to 26,805 from the previous week’s total of 26,604. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable figure of 22,790 for the week ending July 12, 2014.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 26,530 from the previous week’s average of 26,293.
